Here We Go Again: Celebrate the Nostalgia of the 80's on the Big Screen

For the second year in a row Columbia County travels back to the 80's for its annual outdoor movie event.

From crane kicking underdogs to globetrotting adventure seekers, some of the most iconic films from everyone's favorite decade were from the summer of '84, which means (if you're counting) this year marks the 30th anniversary of their release. And what better way to celebrate this milestone birthday than bringing a few of them back to the big screen?

So break out your bandannas and your best martial arts moves because we're kicking things off (pun intended) with The Karate Kid on Friday, September 26th. Watch as washing cars and painting fences take on a whole new meaning as a bullied teen, with the help of an unassuming martial arts expert, take on a vicious group of karate wielding Cobra Kais.

Fun Fact: Did you know that Charlie Sheen was originally offered the role of Daniel LaRusso?

The Catchphrase Cafe will be serving up food and refreshments so join us for dinner and a movie! The fun gets under way at 7pm with the movie starting promptly at dark.

On October 3rd join Indy and his sidekicks as they navigate their way through dangerous catacombs in search of a sacred, mystical stone in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Directed by Steven Spielberg and produced and co-written by George Lucas, The Temple of Doom is the second installment of the Indiana Jones franchise and serves as a prequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark

IMDB lists this movie as having a PG rating but did you know that it was because of this film (as well as Ghostbusters, which debuted around the same time) that the PG-13 rating was created? This film is not recommended for small children.

Chick-Fil-A is our featured vendor of the evening. The Catchphrase Cafe will back to handle refreshments as well. Admission to each of these movies is only $2 with free admission for children 3 and under. For more information visit columbiacountyga.gov or call 706-650-5005.

Columbia County will unveil a *NEW* Christmas Festival at Evans Towne Center Park!

It’s hard to believe that we are already heading into fall and that the Christmas decorations will soon be making its way onto the shelves of your favorite retailers. Before you know it, it will be that time of year again, time for pre-lit holiday decor, eggnog, Rudolph, Santa and for the first ever...Christmas in the Park!

As many of you may know, for the past several years we have hosted an event known as Christmas, Crafts, and Caroling. While this event has been  very popular, we felt like we could do more!

Bouncy The World's Tallest Snowman is a 30 ft. tall bounce house

This year on Saturday, December 6th, Evans Towne Center Park will play host to the first Columbia County Christmas in the Park festival. This day long event will include many incredible winter themed attractions such as Bouncy The World's Tallest Snowman, Snowzilla Junior, an inflatable toboggan slide, and for the first time in Columbia County...an ice skating rink!

Arts and craft vendors are encouraged to apply to be a part of our Vendor’s Village (hand-crafted items only, please). Visit coulmbiacountyga.gov for application forms. There will be an assortment of food vendors, arts and crafts, as well as lots of fun activities for the kids, a trackless train, multiple other inflatables (along with the two main inflatable attractions),  a live nativity scene, displays by the CC Police & Fire Department, and much more!

There will also be live entertainment throughout the day with performances by Fred Williams, the Kelley Family, Vineyard Church, Tara Scheyer & the Mud Puppies and Eryn Eubanks & the Family Fold.

Gates will open at 10 a.m. The attractions will close at 4 p.m. Tickets will be $8 in advance and $10 at the gate. This will include all of the attractions and children's activities (food and arts & crafts sold individually). Tickets will soon be available through e-tix online and at the Community & Leisure Services office located at 630 Ronald Reagan Drive, Building C, so stay tuned! Please like us on Facebook (Columbia County Community Events) and follow us on twitter @CCCEvents_ETCP to get event updates and ticket sale info.

Following Christmas in the Park will be the annual Columbia County Christmas Tree Lighting beginning at 5:30 p.m. This is a FREE event! The ceremony will include performances by local school choruses and a special appearance by Santa! While all of the main attractions will be closed during this ceremony, the vendors will still be out so be sure to stop by and check out their handcrafted goodies!
